The food here is always delicious! Their chicken salad and chicken-fried steak are scrumptious. This is hands down one of the best spots for beignets in Chicago. I recommend going early on a weekday to avoid the long lines--they get really busy on weekends!

Great restaurant. I have been going almost weekly for several years now. Fabulous Hot Chicken & Waffles. The best Biscuits (I prefer with jam to the standard hot honey) and the best Cinnamon Rolls I have ever had. On complaint though, is after a few years, some variety would be great. I have heard from staff that the executive chef make a great Jambalaya and has great Chili. That, and some Etouffe would be great add-on so that we have more things to choose from.

This visit to Roux was much better than my last. I had shrimp & grits, which were really good, and my date had a sandwich that he also enjoyed. It looked delicious. We also tried the beignets and cinnamon rolls. Dessert was definitely my favorite part of the meal. Roux operates as more of a self-service spot. You order at the front, seat yourself, grab your own napkins and water, and even box up your leftovers yourself. The staff did a good job of clearing tables once we finished eating. The ambiance is decent, with a good amount of seating and a nice patio for warmer weather. My only complaint is that the prices feel a bit high considering the self-service model, but the food was tasty definitely an improvement from my last visit.

OUTSTANDING. Roux has a classy/comfortable ambiance and wonderful food! I had one of the best shrimp and grits I've had for a long time and a biscuit of my dreams. I'd gain so much weight if I lived in Hyde Park; Roux would be my morning go-to.

First time coming to the Roux Diner and boy was it a great lunch. The setting is a diner like feel but has warm touches all around. To prevent overcrowding, they seat you after ordering and getting drinks. Everything was wonderful and the staff were friendly. Food was superb! Be ready to see some mouth watering pastries with one of the most mouth watering cinnamon rolls that o have ever seen! We ordered Grits loaded which included cheese, caramelized onions, and bacon. You could have gotten mushrooms but opted out of those. We also had a Patty Melt, where the burger had great flavor. Our lunch included Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. Fantastic!! Hubby had Deviled eggs to satisfy his appetite. Last but not least, you have to try the Beignets! To die for! Warm and yummy!

I plan my flights into Chicago around the schedule open days at Roux diner. My best friend from high school picks me up from ORD and we stop for brunch here on our way back to Indiana. The brisket hash bowl is something from dreams, the flavors are explosive and the textures are perfect. I have no idea what they're doing to those potatoes but wow. Justin usually orders the Shrimp and Grits which is also phenomenal. Both dishes are plenty big to share. This particular visit another of our friends was working only a few blocks away and joined us for her lunch break. She ordered the fried green tomato toast and it was delicious! I don't even eat tomatoes... I would say the coffee is pretty standard, no bells or whistles but the ambiance is very upscale but still casual. Communal style sitting so depending on the time/day or size of your party you may be sharing a table with some others.

I appreciate how Roux is open all day. We dined in on a Saturday evening, so the restaurant was pretty empty and we were not affected by the usual morning crowd. As such, I was able to enjoy a relatively relaxed time. There is a lot of seating inside. You order first at the counter and then they will bring your food to your table. We ordered the shrimp and grits and the fried catfish. - The shrimp and grits: The shrimp was very tender and cooked perfectly. This dish was tasty, but overall could have used a bit more seasoning. - The fried catfish: I really enjoyed the tartar sauce that came with the catfish. The catfish also was breaded nicely, but could have used more seasoning.
